Agent-Based Civilization Simulator

Concept: Observe the emergence of complex behaviors as five distinct species (represented by mobile agents) roam a planet, gather resources, reproduce, interact through diplomacy, and engage in conflict.

Key Mechanics:

How to Use:

  1. Toggle Menu: Use the 'Menu' button (bottom-left) to show/hide the controls and info panel.
  2. View Controls: Use mouse or touch (Orbit, Pan, Zoom). Defaults: Left-Click/Tap+Drag = Orbit, Right-Click/Two-Finger Drag = Pan, Scroll/Pinch = Zoom.
  3. Adjust Parameters (in Menu Panel): Set initial conditions before starting.
  4. Run: Press 'Start Sim'. Agents appear and begin.
  5. Observe: Watch agent movement, resource changes (face colors), reproduction, combat (white flashes), and trade routes (glowing lines). View detailed stats in the Info section of the Menu panel.
  6. Control: Use 'Pause', 'Reset Sim', and 'Instructions' (all in Menu Panel).

3D Agent-Based Civilization Simulation

Explore how resource pressure, population growth, diplomacy, trade, and conflict shape a simulated planet.

What this tool does

This interactive 3D simulation places five distinct species on a faceted planet. Colored agents move across the surface, gather regenerating resources, reproduce when they have enough stored resources, and interact with other species through neutral relations, peace, trade agreements, alliances, and war.

The planet view shows changing resource levels, agent activity, combat flashes, and glowing trade routes. The information panel reports global simulation statistics, species details, relationships, and agent states as the simulation runs.

Who this is for

How to use this tool

  1. Read the opening instructions, then select Start Exploring! or open them again with Instructions.
  2. Use mouse or touch controls to orbit, pan, and zoom around the planet.
  3. Open the Menu and adjust simulation speed, agent movement, reproduction, aggression, diplomacy, resource regeneration, and trade gain before starting.
  4. Press Start Sim to run the model, then use Pause to inspect a moment or Reset Sim to begin again.
  5. Read the global and species statistics in the menu while watching the agents and relationships change.

Inputs

Inputs are the seven visible sliders: simulation speed, agent move speed, reproduction rate, aggression, diplomacy, resource regeneration, and trade gain. The initial model also uses five built-in species and a starting population; there is no file import or custom species editor.

Outputs

The output is a live 3D visualization plus on-screen simulation statistics. You can observe resource-colored planet faces, population changes, species states, relationships, trade routes, reproduction, and probabilistic conflict. The page does not provide a report or data export, and the model is for exploration rather than scientific prediction.
